Gray & Blue Throated Emerald Toucanet(Aulachorynchus prasinus cyanolaemus) is one of three subspecies of Emerald Toucanets found in Peru. It is found in northern Peru and southern Ecuador in the foothills of the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains, where it occurs in pairs. It is a difficult bird to spot in the rainforest, due to its subtle colors which allow it to blend into the background.
Without a doubt the most beautiful of all the Emerald Toucanet subspecies, this form was never seen in North America until recently, when Emerald Forest Bird Gardens imported a single individual in 2009. Emerald Forest looks forward to obtaining a mate for this bird as well as some additional pairs, so a breeding program can be implemented.
